What is it:  Kelly McGonigal is a Stanford University Psychologist.  She is also the author of two books, The Upside of Stress, and The Willpower Instinct. Through her research, she has discovered that changing the way you view stress cannot only save your life, but it also forces your brain to reach out to others.

Why we love it: How many times have you said this in the last week?  “I am so stressed out!”   Listen to this TEDx talk presented by Health psychologist, Kelly McGonigal.  Stress is not going to kill you, but the way you think about stress will.  The good news is that McGoningal will explain the best way to change the way you think about stress, so pay attention until the very end of the talk.

2. Online Article: 10 Ways to Change the Way You Deal With Stress

What it is: Asli Omur is a journalist, writer, and contributor to the popular online Blog Likehack. In this post, she acknowledges that stress can be good for us.  Read her practice the 10 steps she lists in the post to change the way you deal with stress.

Why we love it: If you are feeling overwhelmed by the stress in your life, you are probably like most of us; you want to crawl back into bed, grab a glass of wine, turn on the TV to drown out the noise in your mind, or maybe all three.  Instead of falling back on your old habits, try practicing the 10 ways explained in this post.  You may not be able to do all 10 of them at first.  Try a couple at a time.  Post the steps over your desk, and in your home.  Next time you start to feel that choking feeling of being stressed out, read the steps again.
